Sonic 2 is the most ambitious game in the Sonic series. It surpassed its predecessor in almost every way and was an all-time classic for the Sega Genesis.
The sequel sees Robotnik back in town and with a new partner: Knuckles the Echidna. As a result, Sonic must find a special emerald that will help him stop Robotnik before it’s too late.
Synopsis
Sonic (Ben Schwartz) escapes dangerous enemies to find a new home on Earth, only to be threatened by Dr. Robotnik, a mad scientist with the goal of taking over the world.
Now living in Green Hills, Montana with his human friends Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) and his wife Maddie (Tika Sumpter), he strives to build a reputation as a hero while trying to keep his powers out of the public eye. However, when his nemesis Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) returns from his mushroom planet of solitary isolation and reunites with a new partner, Knuckles the Echidna, to pursue a powerful Master Emerald that can change reality, Sonic must race against time to stop him.
Though it reintroduces many of the beats from the 2020 predecessor, 123 movies sonic 2 is more or less standalone thanks to its strong cast. Idris Elba joins Ben Schwartz and James Marsden in voice roles, while Colleen O’Shaughnessey reprises her role as Tails.
Cast
James Marsden, best known as Scott Summers/Cyclops in the X-Men movies, will be reprising his role of Tom in Sonic 2. The small town sheriff originally wanted to live in San Francisco, but eventually grew to love Green Hills and became good friends with Sonic.
The film also features Tika Sumpter as Maddie, a veterinarian who helps battle Robotnik alongside her husband Tom and Sonic. Natasha Rothwell returns as Rachel, the older sister of Maddie and Tom’s niece, Jojo.
Shemar Moore, widely recognized as Derek Morgan on long-running crime drama Criminal Minds, will be voicing Randall, Rachel’s fiance.
The voice cast of the movie includes Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Tika Sumpter as Maddie, Natasha Rothwell as Rachel and Adam Pally as Deputy Wade Whipple. Colleen O’Shaughnessy is the voice of Tails, a yellow fox who has super powers and becomes Sonic’s best friend. Jim Carrey will reprise his role as Doctor Robotnik, the villain from the first film who was defeated by Sonic and his friends.

Paramount Pictures released a trailer for the movie today, but it’s incredibly fast – too fast to be watched in its entirety. So, a slowed-down version has been released to keep fans happy and hyped for the film’s premiere tomorrow. It even includes a few sneak peeks at scenes that will appear in the final version of the film.

Movies based on video games, comic books and TV shows are all over the big screen these days. Sonic 2 is no exception, though it’s a bit more fun than expected.
After a bank robbery caused a great deal of collateral damage, Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) becomes a hero that others can rely on in Green Hills, Montana. It’s up to Sonic’s Earth foster parents Tom and Maddie Wachowski (James Marsden and Tika Sumpter) to rein him in.
The movie is a speedster-primed lesson about relying on friends and family, growing up well and being a good example. It also has some light foul language, and strong action that may scare small children.
