King Von was born in Chicago, United States. He became renowned as an American rapper after posting his songs to YouTube and becoming popular through video uploads. Additionally he worked as a model and actor and was 26 at the time of his death during an altercation with another gang crew.
Von, who was arrested at age 16, spent years in and out of jail before eventually pleading guilty to possession of firearm without permit in 2015. Despite these issues, Von went on to become a rapper. Touring with Lil Durk led him to sign to Lil Durk’s OTF label and release singles.
Von’s music was narrative-based with an edge of nihilism softened by humor and empathy; his style is known in rap as “storytime flow.” He released his first album Memories From Da Hood in 2018, followed by Welcome to O’Block featuring New York rapper Fivio Foreign produced by Cheeze Beatz a year later with this title reflecting Von’s desire to return home and rectify past wrongs while providing strong leadership to his community.

He was killed in a shooting
Chicago rapper King Von was shot and killed in Atlanta early Friday morning during an altercation that escalated into gunfire between two groups outside Monaco Hookah Lounge in downtown Atlanta, according to police. Three other people were also injured in this shootout; 22-year-old Timothy Leeks has since been arrested on murder charges.
According to police reports, King Von was present when two groups approached them at a lounge and began an argument, leading to gunfire being exchanged before on and off duty police officers responded and took possession of suspects held at Grady Hospital.
King Von, also known as Dayvon Daquan Bennett, rose from difficult circumstances to become an up-and-coming rap star in the music industry. In October he released his debut album “Welcome to O’Block,” an ode to the South Side neighborhood where he spent his youth. When news of his death broke it sent shockwaves through hip hop circles with celebrities such as NBA star Lebron James and Chance The Rapper offering condolences.
Additionally he had signed with Lil Durk’s Only the Family Entertainment label while appearing on popular radio shows like Breakfast Club with DJ Akademiks as well as having his song featured on Netflix series Empire soundtrack. King Von is survived by his mother, father and brother.
